After the Off West Fukuoka Earthquake hit Fukuoka on March 20, 2005, all of the residents on Genkai island, near the epicenter, had to be evacuated off the island to temporary shelters in Fukuoka city. Volunteers from the college, both students and faculty, helped manage relief supplies and taking care of small children at Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium in Chuo-ku, Fukuoka, which was used as an evacuation site.

Shaken by continuing aftershocks and not knowing when they could go back to their normal lives, the evacuees were clearly suffering from great stress. The volunteers worked diligently hoping to make them feel easier even by a little.
